Pushchairs & Car Seats For Your Baby

After the baby is born you will have to find a way of traveling with your baby on a day-to-day basis. You will have to buy something to carry your baby around in. The most expensive thing that you buy for your newborn will be the pram or pushchair. This is something that will be used very often therefore study all the options you have before buying one. The most important things to look for are:

  • Whether it will fit into your car.
  • If it can be used in the public transport system.
  • If you can fold with one arm with the baby in the other.
There is a wide variety to choose from. Here are a few types:
  1. The traditional pram.
  2. Two-in-one or convertible pushchair: Can be used flat for newborns and in an upright position for babies with head and neck control.
  3. Two-in-one-plus: This has a lift-off lie back seat, which can be used to carry a sleeping baby. But this cannot be used for overnight sleeping.
  4. Three-in-one or combination pushchair: This is similar to a two-in-one but has a lift-off carrycot. If the carrycot is fitted with mattress it can be used for overnight sleeping.
  5. Travel system: Which has all of the above features, along with a Group 0 car seat that can be locked to the pushchair chassis.
  6. 'Umbrella' Buggy that can be quickly and easily folded. Unsuitable for newborns.
Car seats: If you have a car you need to buy a seat for your newborn as well. This can be a baby seat that can be used till the baby is nine months old or a combination of a baby and child seat. Rear-facing seats are better for small babies as they are safer. But do no use them in the front passenger seat if you have air bags in your car.
